Technical Workshop in support of the establishment of the Titchfield City Group on Ageing and Age-disaggregated Data, 22-24 August 2017, Winchester University, U.K.
Organized by: UK Office for National Statistics
Supported by: DFID, UNDP, DSPD/DESA, HelpAge International, WHO, UNFPA, UN-Women
To better understand the challenges and opportunities faced by older persons and to assess their economic, social, health and cultural conditions, systematic data analysis, data disaggregation and data collection approaches and methodologies need to be developed to fill these data and evidence gaps. It is also critical to improve the understanding of the gender dimensions of the lives of older persons, since social, economic, health and cultural factors affect older women and men in different ways.
To address these challenges in a more formal and systematic way, efforts are currently undertaken by a group of interested stakeholders to establish a working group on Ageing and Age-disaggregated Data at the UN Statistical Commission.
The objectives of this workshop are to engage key stakeholders from NSOs, Government, academia, civil society and the private sector to share knowledge and experience on the core issues of age-disaggregated data and ageing statistics, and to advance consensus for the establishment of the City Group on Ageing and Age-disaggregated Data.
The meeting will be hosted by UK Office for National Statistics and co-organized with DFID, UNDP, UNDESA DSPD, HelpAge International, WHO, UNFPA and UN-Women.
